Following a successful series of engagements in Edinburgh, the Indonesian Business Council (IBC) continued its series of visits in the United Kingdom with a stop in London, to promote the Indonesia Economic Summit (IES) 2026, which aims to showcase Indonesia on the global economic stage. The summit will serve as a platform to discuss strategies for resilient and sustainable growth, with a focus on public policy advocacy, Indonesian economic research, and the development of financial sectors and carbon markets.

IBC met with H.E. Dr. Desra Percaya, Indonesia’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom. The meeting introduced IBC as a new business association that unites Indonesian industry leaders with a shared commitment to sustainability finance. The visit also featured discussions with key UK stakeholders, including Moazzam Malik, Chair of the Anglo-Indonesian Society and former UK Ambassador to Indonesia. Conversations explored green financing opportunities and energy transition strategies, with a focus on how transition finance can drive Indonesia’s future growth, and invited UK delegates to attend the Indonesia Economic Summit 2026.

The Delegations emphasized the importance of collaboration between developed and emerging economies in achieving global climate goals. The other engagement set with Robin Burgess, Professor of Economics at the London School of Economics, focused on credible carbon market governance opportunities for collaboration in research, policy, and investment. Further discussions with TheCityUK covered the development of a robust digital economy framework, the expansion of Indonesia’s financial sector, and efforts to promote financial inclusion in Indonesia through the integration of international best practices.

IBC’s engagements in London continued with a meeting with Bob Manning, Head of the Southeast Asia Department at the Department for Business and Trade, where participants explored policy directions and opportunities for strategic partnerships between the UK and Indonesia. At Asia House, discussions focused on ASEAN’s growth potential, highlighting the global economic shift toward Asia and the importance of international collaboration in addressing both regional and global challenges. The IBC delegation also met with the UK-ASEAN Business Council (UKABC), where members expressed strong interest in Indonesia’s energy transition, seeing it as the largest opportunity in ASEAN.

Reflecting on the success of the visit, William Sabandar, COO of IBC, noted that it reinforced Indonesia’s position as a leader in the green digital economy. “This visit not only introduced IBC, but also showcased Indonesia’s evolving digital economy framework, a sustainable financial system, and a credible carbon market,” he said. Continued collaboration with British stakeholders will be essential in achieving Indonesia's long-term goals in sustainable development and carbon market innovation. Looking ahead, the Indonesia Economic Summit (IES) 2026 will serve as a key forum for Indonesia and its global partners to explore strategies for inclusive green growth, bringing together over 1,500 business leaders, policymakers, and global experts in pursuit of resilient and sustainable economic solutions.
