Dr. Sofyan Djalil has a variety of experiences both in public and private sectors. He served as Indonesian Cabinet Minister for 13 years under two different Presidents. Under President Jokowi, he was the Minister for Land Affairs and Spatial Planning / Head of National Land Agency (2016 - June 2022). Having previously served as the Minister of National Development Planning / Head of National Development Planning Agency (2015-2016) and the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs (2014-2015). During President Yudhoyono's first term, he served as the Minister of Information and Communication Technology (2004-2007) and the Minister of State-owned Enterprises (2007-2009).
Currently, besides serving as the CEO of the Indonesian Business Council (IBC), he also serves as Non Executive Chairman/Member of the Boards of several companies. In addition, he also serves as Co-Chairman of the Indonesia Palm Oil Strategic Studies (IPOSS).
Dr Sofyan Djalil is also active in philanthropic and community services. Among others, he founded and is acting as Chairman of Board of Trustee the Indonesia Heritage Foundation (IHF) – (ihf.or.id).
He earned a Ph.D degree in International Capital Market Law and Policy from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy – Tufts University (1993) after he finished his Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy (MALD, 1991) and Master of Arts (MA) in Public Policy from the same University in 1989. He received his Law Degree from the University of Indonesia in 1984.
